BBC News – London 2012: Crocheted lions unveiled as part of Cultural Olympiad.
If you haven’t seen pictures of the incredible Olympic lions, check out this link. Commissioned as part of a cultural exhibit in conjunction with the 2012 Olympic Games in London, these kings and queens of the jungle evolved from yarn and a crochet hook. I think the video says it took the artist 4 years to construct these wonders of art and nature. I wonder how she did it so fast!
The first time I saw this, I was absolutely amazed. Now, I must admit, I find this art installation more than a little ironic given the whole US Olympic Committee vs Ravelry debacle. Apparently, there are Olympians who value and respect the fiber arts without being prodded with hooks and needles. Imagine that!
Aren’t they phenomenal?
They sure are!
